Patent For Digital Factory now Public

Saturday, 31 December 2011 07:10 Published in Mass Customization

It has been over 5 years since one of our founders, Chris Norman, filed for patent protection for a business model for consumer-driven customization. The patent was provisionally filed in April 2006 and subsequently filed actual in 2007 under US patent application 11/750,499. In 2008, Digital Reality hired the Matthews Firm to represent the company during patent prosecution and the new firm filed a CIP application this year.

The patent was filed BEFORE the company disclosed the business model to the public. The original beta website defining the business model can be viewed here:

Kraftwurx.com is coming

Saturday, 28 May 2011 05:59 Published in Mass Customization
I decided to spill the beans so-to-speak. In 2004 I began working on a business plan for a very creative new business that would revolutionize the way consumers purchase durable goods. In 2005 Digital Reality was born. In 2006 I formed the company around a C Corporation and issued 1 million shares of stock. I raised a bit of money too. That same year, I filed a patent with the USPTO titled Made-To-Order Digital Manufacturing Enterprise and attended RAPID in Chicago where I met the likes of Todd Grimm, Terry Wohlers, Carl Dekker and more. In 2007, I published a demo of a website powered by Digital Factory™ which was discovered by someone on the Make Magazine website HERE. Which led to some general publicity around the project:

In 2007, I also pitched to raise $1.5 Million in venture capital to G51 Capital, Austin Ventures, The Austin Technology Incubator, the Texas Emerging Technology Find and the Rice Alliance. As they say...it is easier to get struck by lightning on a clear blue sky day...in Airzona...while standing in an empty swimming pool than it is to raise venture capital! Its true!

I have spent 5 years prosecuting patent(s) and a new 9/11 GT3 worth of cash, as well as countless hours of my time, developing software, learning and waiting for technology to catch up to me!

I have great news, Digital Reality™ is launching a website called Kraftwurx.com this fall based on our patent pending "Digital Factory™" system. Kraftwurx is the leading edge in the personalization & customization trend. Kraftwurx allows everyone to focus on what they do best. Designers & artists design & sell, bureaus manufacture and consumers buy products, many of which can be customized or personalized. Kraftwurx is a truly global marketplace for completely unique products you won't find anywhere else. Kraftwurx puts the Über in Cüstomization! Kraftwurx is Powered By Digital Factory™ from Digital Reality, Inc.

What can you do with Kraftwurx? You can buy, sell and create custom & unique products designed by you, for you such as: jewelry, Motorcycle parts, art, trophies, incentive and promotional products, and a plethora of other unique products. You can also earn money by selling your 3D designs on our website. Everything we sell, printed in 3D with additive manufacturing. Its amazing & you can learn more at our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kraftwurx/110456059054311

Southern Charm

Southern Charm Photography is the website of Stacy Templeton. Stacy is a good friend of mine with an amazing eye for photography. His old website for Southern Charm Photography was...although pleasant looking, lacking in functionality to deliver results and compel clients to contact him. Digital Reality has added a host of new features to provide value to his clients as well as a new platform to help drive traffic to his site. We've added a complete shopping system allowing SC-Photo to sell photographs, mouse pads, coffee mugs and other merchandise via his website for clients. We integrated a facebook connect system so you can directly share photos with your Facebook account. Links appearing in your Facebook page link you back to purchase prints or other merchandise. Clients can also log into their account for proofing their photos, download them and or purchase prints and other merchandise directly. The site is completely SEO friendly thanks to Joomla, with user accounts which require login to view your photos and we've incorporated blogs and twitter feeds to help improve traffic on the site. Finally, we added Google Analytics to help Southern Charm Photography improve site traffic over time!

Headwaters Leadership Institute

Headwaters Leadership Institute reflects the notion that religion and business can coexist and that business leaders should follow biblical principals in how they conduct business. Morals and ethical decisions should drive your business not self-serving ideology.

Digital Reality often works with not-for-profits and Headwaters is one of those institutions. Our goal was to deliver a website to allow the institutions consulting leadership deliver their message to potential clients.

Our premise was to use the imagery of salt of the earth to convey the simplicity of it all to convey the message the institution desired. We combined this with a light and airy feel to present the business relationship side of the organization. We feel we delivered on the expectation.

Sim Law Office

Wednesday, 06 October 2010 04:20 Published in Websites
Sim Law Offices is an immigration law office in Houston, Texas. I went to high school with one of the principal attorneys for this firm and we have the honor of developing the first website for Sim Law Firm. Prior to This, Sim Law Offices did not have a professional Logo or a web presence. Digital Reality and Flabbergast Design have done several things for Sim Law Office with this website. First we gave Sim Law Office a website that is without a doubt, aesthetically far superior in the majority of typical Attorney Websites. Second, through logo development and color themes, we have "branded"clean  Sim Law Office with a look and feel that is both professional and culturally diverse. The Logo developed by Steve Barnard translates well to both logo and stationary and gives the company an instantly recognizable "look" that is both modern and professional.

Regarding Features for this site: SimLaw office conducts most of their business by word of mouth but they still pay for advertising in local cultural publications. The cost of these publications is repeated whereas the cost of the website was a one-time charge with a far more significant reach to potential clients than print publications cna have. Secondly, we have integrated Google Translate Pro which allows the website to be both viewed and crawled by search engines in multiple languages on the fly.  Coupling Google translate with an SEO campaign to get visibility and ranking on search engines will result in a significant web presence...and likely translate to inquiries and sales conversions.

Sim law offices should realize a substantial Return on Investment within a few months from the site once the results of the SEO campaign play out. Visit Sim Law Office HERE
